ABOUT US_edited.png

Our story starts with Dan Lucas, Sr., known to most as Danny. Danny’s very first memories of riding on two wheels begin at the young age of 12, in Asbury Park, New Jersey. It was the 1960s and life was different. Danny’s lifelong affinity for motorcycles all started with a borrowed Vespa, courtesy of his uncle. Danny would ride on two wheels every day after school with a big smile on his face, the wind in his hair, and and love in his heart. For Danny’s entire life his two-wheeled journey was never going to stop. That is, until, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in March of 2009. Danny was diagnosed with prostate cancer at the young age of 56. A quick response was especially important for Danny’s treatment of this invasive disease, as more than 50% of his prostate was saturated with cancerous tumors.

By March of 2010, just one year later, Danny had undergone prostate removal surgery and was left with permanent complications as a result of the procedure. Fourteen years after his initial diagnosis, Danny is still battling prostate cancer - EVERYDAY - in some way. But, no one fights alone! We are blessed to report that after multiple of treatments, Danny's “numbers” are stable. As a motorcycle enthusiast would expect, Dan Lucas’s passion to ride has never diminished, even though he hasn’t been able to straddle an engine since 2009. Not a day goes by that he doesn’t think about the wind in his face and the thrill of twisting the throttle. Danny’s last ride was with his son, Dan Lucas, Jr., through the Florida Keys in October of 2008. As the salty air blew on their faces, and they listened to the roaring sound from their exhaust, neither one of them knew this would be Danny's last ride… or their last ride together as father and son. Danny’s dreams of riding his tri-glide again are ever present in his mind. And, we can’t wait for that day to come. The abrupt change in Danny's life led his son, Dan Lucas, Jr., to create Customs Kicking Cancer, a 501c3, in honor of his father, and those just like him.

At Customs Kicking Cancer, we are committed to the mission of prostate cancer awareness, early detection, and creating dialogue within the motorcycle and car enthusiast communities. We are ready and willing to have direct conversations regarding the challenges and struggles that the prostate cancer community faces, while harnessing the courage and strength it takes to fight this battle. We strive to create mainstream, daily discussions, both within our community and abroad, through grassroots efforts at rallies, shows, and charity rides and drives. Dan Lucas, Sr., although special in his journey, is not unique among men. Roughly 250,000 men are affected by prostate cancer every single year. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men and results in one death nearly every fifteen minutes.

WHAT IS PROSTATE CANCER?

Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer among men worldwide. It begins in the prostate — a small gland that’s part of the male reproductive system — and often grows silently, with little or no symptoms in its early stages.

That silence is exactly why early detection is everything.

By the Numbers:

  1. 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.

  2. Over 288,000 men are diagnosed every year in the U.S. alone.

  3. Roughly 35,000 die from it each year — making it the second leading cause of cancer death in American men.

  4. African American men are about 1.7 times more likely to be diagnosed and twice as likely to die from the disease.

  5. When caught early, the 5-year survival rate is over 99%.

WHY AWARENESS AND ACTION MATTER

Despite the high numbers, prostate cancer is rarely talked about. There’s stigma. There’s discomfort. And far too often, there’s a lack of access to education or testing — especially for underserved communities and men who “feel fine.”

That’s where Customs Kicking Cancer comes in.

We’re not just raising awareness — we’re starting conversations, supplying PSA test kits, and showing up in person where men are. We make it okay to ask questions, to check in, and to take action early — because silence helps cancer grow. Talking about it saves lives.

A PSA test kit is a simple, often at-home screening tool used to detect prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels in a man's blood. PSA is a protein produced by both normal and cancerous cells in the prostate, and elevated levels can be an early sign of prostate cancer — or other prostate issues like enlargement or inflammation.

HOW IT WORKS:

  1. The test typically involves a finger-prick blood sample, either collected at home or in a clinic.

  2. The blood is analyzed to measure PSA levels.

  3. Higher-than-normal PSA levels can indicate the need for further medical evaluation, such as additional testing or a biopsy.

WHY IT MATTERS:

  1. It’s non-invasive, fast, and potentially life-saving.

  2. It can catch prostate cancer early, often before symptoms appear — when treatment options are most effective.

  3. At-home kits make it easy and discreet, especially for men who may avoid routine checkups.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

  1. Get tested. Encourage the men in your life to get tested.

  2. Start the conversation. Break the stigma by talking openly about men’s health.

  3. Support the cause. Every ride, donation, and share moves this mission forward.

Picante is the signature motorcycle of Customs Kicking Cancer, built in honor of Danny Sr, who rode it for over 20 years. After his 12-year battle with prostate cancer, the bike was transformed over two years into a custom showpiece representing CKC’s mission. From re-chroming with the original company to hand-painted CKC emblems, every detail honors his fight and victory. Picante debuted in Daytona in February 2025 and will be joining us in Sturgis 2025 and many years to come.
